Larceny Suspects Arrested
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s
Office has arrested a female suspected of involvement in a string of larcenies in the
Smokey Creek area of both Caldwell and Burke Counties.
On January 11th Detective Chris Martin received a phone call
concerning a larceny that had just occurred on Smokey Creek Road. It was learned that the victim had returned home
and found the suspects were taken scrap metal from the victim’s property. The victim attempted to block the suspect’s
vehicle in his driveway but the suspects managed to get around the victim’s vehicle
and flee. The victim gave chase and followed
the suspects into Burke County on Burke Smokey Creek Road.
The suspect vehicle wrecked in the area of Smokey Creek BBQ and the suspects
fled the scene on foot.
With information gained at the scene
of the accident and from the victim, Detective Martin was able to obtain the identity of
the suspects. With assistance from Burke
County Sheriff’s Office, further information was developed and on January 12th
a search warrant was executed in Burke County. Evidence
gained at the scene led to the arrest of the suspects

Vanessa Renee Farmer
white female
date of birth 05/15/1993
4001 Hide Away Hill Rd.
Valdese N.C.
Ms. Farmer has been charged with 3 counts of misdemeanor larceny, 2 felony counts of
Obtaining Property by False Pretense and 3 counts of Possession of Stolen Property. Ms. Farmer is in custody at the Caldwell County
Detention Center under a $50,000.00 secured bond.

Nicholas Shane Gassner
white male
date of birth 03/22/1990
809 Skie Circle
Valdese N.C.
Mr. Gassner is presently in the Burke County Detention Center under charges from Burke
County.
The investigation is ongoing into the
activities of these suspects and additional charges are expected.
Sheriff Alan Jones stated, “Thanks to great information from the victim and
aggressive investigation by detectives from Caldwell and Burke Counties, we have been able
to remove these criminals from our communities.”
