Local Cocaine Dealer Arrested

On July 15, 2010, Agents with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office Ice Unit caught up with an individual they have been looking for on drug charges since April 12, 2010.  Derrick Shay Bishop, age 27, was arrested for two counts of selling cocaine and two counts of delivering cocaine stemming from two previous undercover officer buys.  The investigation began when Bishop was introduced to an undercover officer posing as a potential cocaine buyer on January 20, 2010 and sold the officer 13 grams of powder cocaine.   Another drug deal between the officer and Bishop took place on February 8, 2010.  On this occasion, Bishop sold the officer 6 grams of powder cocaine.

The case was presented before a Caldwell County grand jury and true Bills of Indictment for the drug charges were returned on April 12, 2010.  To add to his troubles, Bishop neglected to make a district court appearance on May 11, 2010, which resulted in another warrant being issued for his arrest.  Agents managed to track Bishop down at 1617 Baton School Road in Granite Falls and arrested him without incident.  The cocaine has a street value of approximately $1,900.00 according to North Carolina State guidelines.  A 1990 Cadillac was also seized from Bishop during this operation.

“We have been looking to catch him for awhile.  When you deal drugs it’s eventually going to catch up to you”. – Sheriff Alan C. Jones
