Homicide in Caldwell County

            On Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 3:08 pm, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a disturbance at 3852 Cross Creek Dr.,  Granite Falls, NC.   The caller stated that he had been shot by the suspect and  there was also a second victim. 

            While communicators were on the phone with the victim, a neighbor alerted an off-duty Lenoir Police Officer who lives in the area.  The off-duty officer was able to locate the suspect and detain him without incident until Caldwell County Sheriff's officers could arrive on the scene.

            The investigation is still ongoing at this time and investigators are in the process of determining a motive for the shooting.

            Donald Malick, II, of 5832 Cross Creek Dr. Granite Falls, NC, 49 years of age, was shot one time in the arm, and was treated and released. Casey Marie Moore, W/F, 19 years of age, from Hickory, NC, was found deceased at the scene of an apparent gunshot wound. 

            Arrested was Donald Paul Malick, 16 years of age. He was charged with First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.  Mr. Malick is from Monroe, NC.
