On February 9, 2010, Antonio Lashay
Mitchell, age 28, of 1697 Old North Road Lenoir, was arrested again on crack cocaine
charges and jailed in the Caldwell County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond. The investigation began when probation officers
visited his residence and conducted a warrantless search of him and the
premise. Mitchell is on supervised probation
from a previous drug conviction and as a condition of his probation, must submit to
warrantless searches.
The officers found Mitchell in
possession of an unlabeled prescription bottle containing crack cocaine and he was taken
into custody. Officers from the Caldwell
County Sheriffs Office Patrol Division and Ice Unit responded to the scene to
assist. A Lenoir Police Department Officer
along with his canine Doc also responded.
A search of the residence was conducted and officers located and seized a
digital weighing scale, cellular telephones, over $3,800 in cash, a covert hide-a-safe
can, and other articles of drug paraphernalia. Canine
Doc, a German Shepard and 7 year veteran with the Police Department, was taken
into the residence and allowed to conduct a search. His
keen nose located a bag of marijuana hidden in a sofa.
According to court records, Mitchell
has been charged with four drug violations regarding crack cocaine beginning in 2004, with
future drug indictments expected.
