Marijuana Trafficker Arrested
On January 16, 2010, agents with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office ICE Unit, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Lenoir Police Department conducted a joint counter-drug operations which netted a Sawmills man with trafficking in marijuana. Shayne Clark Wagoner, age 32, of 4513 Kane Circle Lot #22, Granite Falls was arrested on felony drug charges when he was caught delivering ten pounds of marijuana in a 1991 GMC van at the Wildlife Access on Water Works Road.
During the last month, the agents began targeting a known drug ring extending from the Hickory area to Sawmills. Through surveillance techniques, the agents learned that Wagoner was preparing to meet with a co-conspirator. Agents followed him to the Wildlife Access and took him into custody without incident. A search of his van revealed ten individual pound bags of marijuana packaged for sale. Agents then went to an undisclosed location in Sawmills and retrieved an additional two pounds of marijuana hidden in the woods.
As a result of the investigation, a total of twelve pounds of marijuana and a 1991 GMC van were seized. The marijuana has a street value of approximately $24,000.00 according to North Carolina State guildelines. Additional arrests are expected in this investigation.
