ICE Unit Gives 2009 Year End Report
With 2009 gone and over, the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office ICE Unit is looking forward to serving the citizens another year. ICE, which stand for Inner-County Counter-Drug Enforcement, is the heart of illegal drug and alcohol violations at the Sheriff's Office. Agents within the unit work closely with local law enforcement agencies as well as state and federal agencies, such as the NC SBI, DEA and ATF, to name a few.
Sheriff Alan C. Jones says, "We have a great working relationship with these agencies. The ability to pool different resources is a great asset."
According to an analyst report for 2009, the ICE Unit investigated 121 cases last year, had 43 arrests, of which 12 were indicted federally, and seized the following drugs and property:
Marijuana: 53 pounds
Marijuana Plants: 167
Cocaine: A little over 1 1/2 kilos
Methamphetamine: 3 ounces
Illegal Pills / Capsules, etc.: 161 dosage units
Firearms: 19
Vehicles: 7
United States Currency: $33,937.00
The total street value of all narcotics seized was $803,913.60.
"I demand a lot of hard work from the ICE Unit. We have to work hard. The citizens expect us to do so," stated Sheriff Jones.
