Mother and Son Arrested on Drug Charges

On January 8, 2010, a five month investigation came to a close with the arrest of two individuals who were selling marijuana and their prescription pills. Agents with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office I.C.E. Unit arrested Anita Kay Campbell, aka "Granny" age 60, and son Michael Dean Campbell age 37, on true Bill of Indictments for various felony drug charges. The investigation began in the late summer of 2009 when agents received complaints and information that the Campbells were selling drugs from their mobile home located on Mt. Herman Road in Hudson. An undercover agent became familiar with them and started making purchases of marijuana and prescription pills. These offenses occurred on six different occasions. After these offenses occurred, the Campbells skipped town and moved to Hickory.

As a result of the investigation, a little over a half pound of marijuana and seventeen prescription pills of Oxycodone and Dihydrocodeinone, and an amount of US currency were seized by the officers. The drugs have a street value of approximately $1,300.00 according to North Carolina State guidelines.

One (1) Count - Felonious Sell or Deliver Schedule III Controlled Substance
Two (2) Counts - Felonious Maintain a Dwelling to Keep / Store a Controlled Substance

Anita Campbell was released on a written promise to appear in court and Michael Campbell was incarcerated under a $5,000 secured bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center. Both have a court date of March 1, 2010 in Superior Court in Lenoir.
