On Sunday, October 4, 2009 a while female victim was reported missing by her husband. She stays with her grandchild in the Sawmills community of Caldwell County while her daughter works. She left her daughter's residence at about 1:30 and was approached by a while male asking for help. When the white male suspect approached her vehicle, he displayed a knife. The suspect turned her car off and took her keys out of the ignition and got into the passenger seat. He directed the victim to drive toward I-40. She drove for hours. At one point on Sunday afternoon, the suspect directed her to a dead end pull off in Sylva, in Jackson County. He made her get out of the car and walk up into the woods with him. In the woods the victim started to fight with him and she was stabbed twice by the suspect. The victim passed out and when she awoke, the victim discovered that the suspect had left her car and keys. She was able to drive to a local shopping center and call for help.
